Big Update Coming Soon
I’ve spent a lot of time improving and expanding the game and it will soon be available for desktop and mobile, for free!
Instead of the original 6 levels, it’s now 15 levels, with 45+ minutes of gameplay!
The biggest challenge was to make it work for platforms other than Windows, where I had to rebuild the rhythm system of the game in order to make it compatible with different hardware latencies. It was a very experimental phase where I tried and failed several times, starting out with a rhythm engine controlled and managed by the game thread, and ending with the solution of scheduling music on the audio thread. The result: I had a game that could run on not just Windows, but also Mac, WebGL, Android and iOS!!
The game also received a massive makeover of the graphical style, adding to and improving on the look of particle effects and UI.
A more flexible navigation system was implemented, so the player can select levels to enter and exit easily.
Building on that, I added achievements in the form of bronze, silver or gold stars, so each level has three layers of difficulty - where e.g. gold is the reward for completing a level without taking any damage!
This way, the player can go back and replay completed levels to try and get those extra star rewards!
I’m planning on going more in-depth about the development process sometime soon, maybe in a video.
The WebGL version will probably be available here on itch in a week or two. :)
